From February 20th to 22nd, 2024, the college hosted a specialized cooking training workshop led by renowned Malaysian Chef Eng Kiat To. This three-day event offered six hours of intensive training, focusing on both fundamental cooking and baking techniques, designed to enhance the students’ understanding of Asian and Western cuisines. The workshop kicked off on Day 1 with a deep dive into Asian culinary traditions. Students were introduced to the rich variety of Asian ingredients, cooking styles, and flavors. Chef Eng Kiat To emphasized the importance of mastering essential technical skills in cooking, such as knife handling, flavor balancing, and precise cooking techniques. Under his expert guidance, students actively engaged in preparing traditional Asian dishes, from stir-fries to intricate noodle creations, gaining valuable insights into the art of Asian cuisine.

Day 2 shifted focus to Western cuisine, where students learned about the Western style of cooking and plating. Chef Eng Kiat To guided them through essential techniques, including the preparation of classic sauces, roasting methods, and the intricacies of plating that elevate a dish’s presentation. The students enthusiastically embraced this day of learning, experimenting with new ingredients and techniques while honing their culinary artistry. This exposure to Western culinary traditions complemented their previous training, broadening their culinary repertoire.

As the workshop culminated on Day 3, students showcased their skills through a final cooking challenge.
